What distinguishes a gay relationship from a straight one?

Straight couples may have much to learn from gay couples regarding equitable household labor division. According to another study, same-sex couples communicate better, share errands more effectively, and assign tasks based on individual preferences - rather than focus, pay, hours worked, or power in the relationship. On the other hand, one family refers to straight couples as "pink chores" and "blue chores" because they talk less and abide by conventional gender roles. Income and work hours did not have the same impact on same-sex couples. Furthermore, and perhaps most importantly, same-sex couples were far more likely than straight couples to share the time-consuming work of routine child care equally: 74% of gay couples did so, compared to 38% of straight couples.
